One of my favorite things in life is finding inspiration for, planning and hosting parties. I especially love having a specific theme that I can incorporate into every little detail of the party. Creating a unique theme is something I take pride in with all of my parties and events. If the party is in honor of a specific person, such as a birthday party, I really work on creating a theme that fits the guest of honor just perfectly. This Tea Party theme was just that for my Aunt who couldn’t have been more thrilled at every little tea party inspired detail that went into this birthday/retirement party for her. If you too are looking for the perfect theme for your next party, keep reading to see how I put it all together.
The first thing I did for this event was order a few different flavors of my favorite tea, St. Dalfour. I then had to find enough tea cups and saucers for each guest attending. This was a bit tricky but second hand shops were my bet bet for finding china sets or mismatched tea cups. After I had the tea basics, I put together a menu of traditional tea bites such as finger sandwiches, macarons, scones and shortbread cookies. I made three variations of sandwiches (egg salad, caprese and smoked salmon) and two variations of scones (raspberry lemon and cranberry orange). My favorite detail of this party is the tea bag shortbread cookies. I came across this idea on Pinterest and just had to make them. Not only are they absolutely adorable and yummy but you can print out a customized tea tag such as the one I made that has a special message for the birthday girl. For the shortbread tea bag cookie recipe click here.
Tip: Since bakery macarons can be quite expensive and making them yourself is very time consuming, I suggest buying them from trader joes! I recently discovered that trader joes sells imported french macarons in their frozen section and they are delicious!
To match my custom tea tags on the cookies, I used the same pattern to create food tent labels for all the yummy tea party bites. Another vital decor element in throwing a tea party is flowers. I chose green hydrangeas and placed them in short vases and mason jars on the buffet table and the seating tables. I also picked up a few floral print boxes from Michaels to stack some of the food dishes on and I must say it really tied together the entire theme! I then hung a congratulations banner above the buffet table and used store bought paper poms poms and gold tassels to create flowers on either side of the banner.
Banner: Meri Meri // Floral Boxes: Michael’s // Gold Cupcake Stand: Party City // Flower Pom Poms: Made using Michael’s Poms Poms & Target Gold Tassels // Mini Cake Topper Pom Poms: Target // Floral Tea Cups: Gracie Bone China // Tea: St. Dalfour
Lastly, I added these tiny cake topper pom poms to the cake to complete the pastel tea party theme. I suggest having hot water for the tea available in a dispenser away from the main display/buffet table and providing pastel plates and napkins for the tea party bites. Hope you all enjoy this lovely tea party theme.
